All the talk about hot water, flat rates for water etc is just a reminder that it's worth checking you phone plans whether you're with Bell, Rogers or whoever. We're just changing our plan at the cottage. The plan was ancient - we were paying a fort…

We all have choices in what we buy. You can buy a lot of food, soap, detergent etc at a bulk store with minimal packaging. And as I suggested earlier, you can unpack the soccer ball or super soaker in the store and leave them with the garbage. No n…

Julie and Michael, I've heard of the "German" model you're referring to. Can you point me anywhere I could read about this? As for packaging for advertising, being in the business, I know all about that. As for MEC, yup they have asked their manuf…

I'm not holding my breath. The city is so broke, that if in fact there is any money saved from the strike, they should use it for other things. Fixing the roads would be a great place to start. As a cyclist, I can tell you they are treacherous. I'm…

Julie, I've had many of those same thoughts re: manufacturers taking back packaging, but consider for a moment what that really means. Does it mean you bring packaging back to the store? Will you make trips back to the store to bring back your packa…

Children, children, children...... I applaud those who would figure out as a group how to make the best of this. I do not believe that something like garbage should be privatized. It creates a greater public divide. Is it private garbage collection…

Any road bikers here? Anyone up for weekend rides between 50 km and 100 km? We've been riding to Port Credit, Oakville etc and will soon be heading for a one way to Niagara Falls, taking the VIA back. Anyone?

Saw 3 Bruce shows in a week. Get into "the pit" right in front of the stage for two of them. If you like his music and you've never been to a show, or specifically right in front of the stage, you are missing out on a huge experience. Here's a guy who has been a vital artist for nearly 40 years, and in these last few years, has been more active than ever. The intensity of the show, the amount of energy coming off the stage is hard to describe. And the anger and disappointment of what is happening in his country is palpable. Great shows, and everyone has something different to offer.

The drive home from Buffalo was a bit hairy in the snow storm. Guy in front me did a 180 on the QEW, bouncing off the guard rail. He was OK, and didn't hit anyone, but it sure wakes you up!

Have you checked your phone plan lately?

All the talk about hot water, flat rates for water etc is just a reminder that it's worth checking your phone plans whether you're with Bell, Rogers or whoever. We're just changing our plan at the cottage. The plan was ancient - we were paying a fortune for long distance. Now it's $15 a month for 500 minutes Canada and U.S.A. Other thing to keep in mind is that you can kill your plan during the off season and re-start when you need it - no cost either way.

Looking for a testimonial for Toronto Hydro "Peaksaver" program

Disclosure bit - we do work for Toronto Hydro.

Peaksaver is a program that regulates your central air conditioner when the electrical system is starting to get to a critical point, typically in the midst of a series of very hot days. You can learn more about peaksaver here and take advantage of the $75 incentive offer. It's a good deal.

But that's not the point of this post. I'm looking to see whether anyone here is already on peaksaver and w… Continue

Jackman School in new Toronto Life

I read it. My son used to go there (he's in university now). I dunno, it just makes me go hmmmm. All these people allegedly fighting to live in our neighbourhood to send their kids there. For the extra money they're paying, they could send the kid to private school.

TurnPeaceAround page on Facebook

For all those who are on Facebook, find the TurnPeaceAround page. I think it's time for a new and positive symbol of peace. The peace sign that we all know is, according to its designer a symbol of "death and despair".

I believe you should focus on what you wish for, not what you don't wish for. So, with a very simple twist on a well-known symbol, we've "turned peace around". Have a look. Become a fan if you are so inclined.

And if you're on Facebook, July 1 starts solidarity with Tibet week.… Continue

What Riverdale Rapids could be good for

Since I first got on the net in the early 90's, I always thought that along with all the stuff you can do online, the best use of this thing was to meet like-minded people and do stuff together offline.

I have a huge interest in music, and like going to live shows. I've traveled all over North America to see shows, particularly Neil Young and Springsteen. I've slept in people's homes who I'd never met, other than online in music discussion groups. I've gone to lots of shows with old friends tha… Continue
